Benny Rutten
Database Administrator
As a senior Oracle and Postgres database administrator, I am responsible for the day to day operational management of my company’s (financial and back office) databases. In addition to the operational part, I am constantly looking for ways to optimize our database environment in order to achieve more cost-effective solutions while maintaining the high availability our customers expect. Postgres is probably the most cost-effective solution we adapted. This RDBMS is extremely robust, easy to implement, and highly dependable. In addition to this, it is open-source and therefore, highly affordable. I spent a lot of time developing a robust standard for the setup of Postgres, which I explained and demonstrated during the Postgres Vision event, last June. Postgres has grown into a wonderful product, but there are still many improvements possible and necessary. That is where the Postgres community’s strength becomes apparent. Every new release of Postgres adds great improvements.
